The feline's purrs ebb down to a soft contended note, barely audible to the children's ears. His skin tingled. It had been a long time since a human hand had touched his feral pelt. Bright orbs follow the girl's face as she stands to go, a knowing twinkle held deep in their golden depths. With a soft meow, the tom rubs up against her legs for a last time. The shadowy figure turns to exit, pausing to glance back but once. A queer meow escapes his lips, as if to say goodbye. With a flick of the tail, the tom vanishes, though his watchful presence could still be felt in the room. They would meet again.
