i tink sep onwards it's the start of the wet seasons.. best time to go is may-aug (my preferrence) altho i've known frens who actually went in march/apr or late sep, the water is choppy (mar/apr) or start of rainy/monsoon season (sep).

which agency u booked ur trip from? i wld like to blacklist them for not disclosing in full.

I stayed in the Perhentian from 23.9.2004-25.9.2004.
I was also very worried that we will decay in the chalets because of frequent heavy rain and thunderstorm as described in weather reports.
But it turned out to be very sunny and we got sunburn.
It only became a bit cloudy when we left the island in the afternoon of 25.9.2004.
The weather in Redang might not be exactly the same but should be rather similar as the two islands are only half an hour away by boat.
