Hmmm, blue sand at Reef? You're probably referring to phosphorescent plankton washed ashore that makes the sand on the beach appear to glow with a bluish tint at night. I've heard about it though I haven't seen it myself except in the water during night dives. Maybe I'll look out for it this weekend when I'm there.

As far as I know, visitors are welcome to visit other resorts for their F&B outlets or just to check them out. One can walk to Redang Reef resort along the raised walkway from the end of Pasir Panjang in front of Laguna. There are 2 beaches: a small one at the front, and a larger one at the back which you'll have to cut through the resort to get to.

Rgds,
Alex.

You should be able to snorkel at the rear beach too though at low tide, there's quite a bit of small rocks & rubble. Think the only beach that is off limits to visitors in Redang is the one at Chagar Hutang where SEATRU has their turtle hatchery - this is to prevent disturbing any nests that are present.

Alex.

Hey ppl! I've seen the 'blue sand' it's a kind of plankton, that's what i heard from the natives there. i went to redang a few days ago...and just before i reach the shore of the island the guide told us about the blue sand not far from where we stay, (Redang beach resort) it's amazing, the way it glowed at night..so bright and blue...seemed like a miracle on the sand. Well, i've got some picture of it taken during out visit on the blue sand shore on our 2nd night..if u guys are interested send me a mail..i'll send u the picture...or maybe i could give u the address of my online photo archieve...:P
