Subject: Discovery Dive, Insurance Coverage

Insurance coverage would be a good idea even for discovery dive? Yes?

Is so, where can I get it? From my local insurance agent or do I get it from the dive centre?

Does Wisana or most resorts provide such service?

Any advice or suggestions, please. Thank you.

Hmmm, Tango, raised a good point there - never actually thought about it. Usually, discovery divers have to sign a liability waver i.e. that they are aware of the risks and won't hold the dive centre responsible if something goes wrong. Don't remember if there's any insurance coverage there too - probably not.

Now that you raised this, most life insurance policies don't cover the insured for certain activities, scuba being one of them. Think the premium will definitely increase if scuba is to be added as one of the activities to be covered. Maybe you should check with travel insurance folks - they may have such things to cover certain activities while travelling.

Yes, insurance coverage would be excellent but unfortunately our local insurers are not really knowledgable about diving. What i would suggest is getting DAN's (Divers Alert Network) dive insurance.(www.danseap.org) It doesnt really cost a bomb. Prudential has also got a life policy that covers diving but you will have to fill out at least 3 questionaires b4 they approve it. The best is for you to ask your personal agent for products that maybe available to you.
