For Redang and other islands off the east coast of Peninsular (West) Malaysia, monsoon season begins around end October or early November and lasts till end Feb or early March. Most of the popular dive spots in West Malaysia are affected (Perhentian, Redang, Lang Tengah, Tenggol, Tioman, Aur, Dayang, Pemanggil etc.).

Dive spots in East Malaysia (Sipadan, Kapalai, Mabul, Lankayan) offer diving all year round except for Layang-layang which is also affected by the northeast monsoon and opens only between March to end Sept for diving.
