84年12月8日，是日為「香港賽馬百週年大賽日」最後一天（共分四天進行），第8場1/2班千八米，戴萊策「銀星一號」跑第七，過終點後失蹄拋下騎師，戴萊頭部先著地頸骨折斷，昏迷兩日後身亡。戴萊78年首次來港策騎，為郭靈華愛將，墮馬前是鄭棣池馬房主帥，此君不但為英國名將，更為世界十大騎師之一。因喜歡食煙斗，故又有煙斗戴之稱，甚受圈中人尊重。「銀星一號」連續令世界兩大騎師受重傷，自然難逃被人道毀滅的命運。
