I have heard that Mc Ginnes Or Variations are a combination of the original irish name of Ginnes being adapted in Scotland from numerous Irish settling's in Scotland over the last thousand years. The name was then re-exported to Ireland. The 'u' is most spellings I have also heard is an adaption to make the name more French and therefore more acceptable in "polite"society.
