Subject: Contracts and appearance bonds
In reply to: TCB 's message, "Re: Warrior Beat Undertaker 10+ Wins?" on 01:50:06 01/24/03 Fri

First off I'm no expert on contracts, especially WWF contracts but here are my thoughts nonetheless.

Warrior signed a contract to return to WWF in 1996. He was most likely obliged to make "X" amount of appearances per month or whatever. WWF pre-advertised Warrior for shows (i'm guessing up to a couple of weeks in advance of the actual events). Everything went smoothly until Warrior missed out on a couple of house shows at short notice to be with his dying father. This pissed off fans as they had bought tickets to see Warrior perform and resulted in alot of negative press for WWF. WWF then tried to get Warrior to sign the appearance bond. An appearance bond basically meant that Warrior was bound to the terms of his contract and would appear at whatever shows he was advertised for. If having signed the bond Warrior no showed again the consequences would probably be someting like a fine, loss of wages suspension or termination of his contract. Warrior however gave WWF no oppertunity to enforce any of these actions as he simply refused to sign the bond and walking out of WWF for the final time.

He was fucking right too. Imagine your employer not being prepared to give you time off work to spend time with a terminally ill relative. If it was me I would have walked out too. It gets me hot under the collar just thinking about it.

Long story short; An appearance bond would have tied Warrior to the terms of his contract.
