Author: D [ Edit \| View ]	Date Posted: Fri, Mar 11 2005, 11:52:20 (cpe-24-58-75-249.twcny.res.rr.com/24.58.75.249) Ok many people will probably yell at me because this happened,but I need some answers and can't find any..My 11 yr old yorkie /pom mix is pregnant.I just realized this for sure now.We bought a little male yorkie to breed w/our female yorkie.We have 2 older dogs,both female.To prevent them from getting pregnent we bought the male a bunch of belly bands to wrap around his waist.This worked great until one time when he slipped through the safety gate at the top of our stairs and his band slipped off.He got my 11 yr old dog within a minute...We were hoping she was too old and nothing would happen..but it happened...Now we need help..I will not abort these pups .They are due in 2 weeks. I need to know the risks involved and what to watch out for..There is no help online about senior dogs..I have bred other younger dogs so I know most risks of pregnancy.I just need to know what more can happen with a senior dog! I hope to have healthy pups from this...I am also going to fix both of my senior dogs ASAP!

I just picked up a boa last night and it appears it wasbit by a ferrot or small animals simuilar to that. THere were flies in the bite located on in the center of it's back. I cleaned it out real good a visit to the vet is a little on the pricey side for me so i was wondering if you had any advvise on how to better clean the bite and keep it fromm getting infected?

Recently she started biting herself on her rear leg. Soon there were open sores where she was biting herself. Now she has done this to her other back leg and has started on a front leg. I gave her a flea bath even though there were no fleas visible. I was putting benadryl cream on her to keep her from gnawing at the sores, but seems to be a losing battle. Any one know what is going on ? Any help greatly appreciated, Can't stand to see her look so miserable.

She was bit by a snake, we saved her life, then every since she gets this problem with her skin, feet and now an ear. What are ear mites? Would they do this? But she has issues? PLEASE HELP! I have a 10 yr. old mixed breed dog. He is 10 1/2 lbs. and looks like the Taco Bell dog only a little bigger. The last 4 to 5 weeks he has been constantly constipated. He eats and drinks well but has a torned lining inside his anal pathway which is making it difficult to poop. His vet says they have a surgury which is expensive and is not very reliable. He is taking lactulose medicine 3 times a day to help soften his stool but this isn't helping much. His vet gives him 2 to 3 eniama's each week or so to clean him out. This costs me $60 each time I take him in. Does anyone know how I can do this myself? I need to know what kind of equipment, what kind of solution, and how much solution to use. i forgot to mark the day that i breed her with another dog..i believe its been 2 months since then..her tummy has dropped n gotten hard. i can feel the pups move n also see them at times. someone just told me 2 nights before about checking the temp. that it should drop to about 98 when shes about to have the pups...last night i noticed a yellow-whitish liquid in her vaiginal area..where i then called a friend n she said that its what they call the plug..now i check her temp. last night n it was at 100 i just got done checking it n it was 100.7 i was just wonder if anyone knew what y it jumped back up n if the yellow-whitish stuff is the plug or something else..

My toy malteese keeps eating her hair on her legs. She knaws it down to the skin like a crew cut. Does anyone know why she is doing this and any suggestions on how I can stop her.

I wash her coat in unperfumed shampoo and feed her a good diet with all the minerals she needs. She has lots of toys and chew sticks.

After reading these messages, I cannot believe how many people do not seek more help before they breed their dog, or before their pregnant female begins to whelp! PLEASE, for your pet's sake, go out and purchase a book to help answer your questions before things go wrong. I highly recommend "Canine Reproduction A Breeder's Guide" by Phyllis A Holst, MS, DVM. I have no idea who she is, but the book is fantastic. You can probably get it from your local library.

We think it was around the 5th ( feb ) I have a few questions- this is her 2nd litter ( her 1st was planned and no problems , 3 pups ) it has been years since then. Is 7 to old? I do not know when she should be going into labor ( maybe around the 7th of April )?? Her stomach is really swelling very large the last few days, everytime i look it looks like it has grown! But i have checked down there and a few times she has had some discharge stuff ( this goes back a week or 2 ) it is not clear, it is maybe like a light light brownish color, maybe a little yellowish ( but not really yellow ) what could be going on? Is this normal ? I have read that clear is normal, but it is not. Her stomach is still growing tons, so could this just be nothing? thanks, Lisa

MY dog Jesse's is getting aggressive and shes a chiwawa.Her belly hasnt gotten very big yet so i have the slightest idea if shes pregnant and i really dont have much money to spend on her to go to the vets and check it out and there nothing be wrong with her.How do i know?

Sandy, my daughters dog does not like men. She has been this way since she was about 9mths.old, she is now 2.
She is very aggressive towards any man or even a large teenage boy, she growls, gets real tense, she will even snap at them and has even bitten a couple men, not bad, but bad enough to cause concern.
Sandy is great with kids and females, she is loving and wants to be cuddled, keeping in mind this dog weighs about 90lbs, when shes around these people shes like a big puppy.
PLEASE HELP, how can she break her of this? She really doesn't want to lock her away every time theres company and her son is getting older and has alot of friends that come over, she loves the son alot, they play together all the time, she even sleeps with him or my daughter. Will this agression also become towards him?

She has labored breathing, but I think she has a large litter, and honestly her breathing has been no different than it has in the past week or so. Her feces looks normal, and there's no blood in the stool or urine. The babies are active and moving about, but im very concerned with her tempature. I didnt think it was supposed to drop that low. I was under the impression after it dropped to about 99 degrees that labor would be sure to begin within 12 to 24 hours. She is going into her box and also under my bed for short periods of time, but I cant even tell if shes having contractions. Can some one please help?

My American Staffordshire Terrier had 8 puppies about 8 weeks ago...we have sold all but one of them and we are keeping one for ourselves. The both eat puppy food and drink from a water bowl, but the mom is still lactating...so bad that she leaves puddles. What should be done? I know with humans this can be really painful.

Subject: Puppies found dead.

We let her out to go to the bathroom and forgot about her, at 4:30am my son woke up frantic and went to get her. He found her and found 5 live puppies. after all the puppies were in he made another search and found two dead. Is it posible they froze with our tempeture falling below 20 degrees last night? They were the biggiest of the litter, yet frozen and stiff. There was no chance of resuce under the conditions. Did they die because of the cold or born dead?

We would have him treated for the ear infections and he usually received a cortisone shot and topical ointments for the "skin allergies". Finally Hunter got so bad that we had to see at least one more vet for a final opinion. This last vet we saw told us that he thought it might be Hunter's thyroid. Sounded strange to us but we had his blood tested and BINGO that was it. We give Hunter two thyroid pills a day and have his blood tested once a month. It was like a mircale, we saw an improvement within 2 days. Please ask your vet if they have tested thyroid levels. Hope this helps someone.

I have a question. Out Boxer female was pregnant and due to whelp on Oct.25. On Friday I took her to my vet and found she had no puppies. She was ultrasounded about 2 weeks m/l after breeding and she had 6 puppies at that time. My vet said she had to of absorbed them not long after the ultrasound. There was no sign of her aborting them as I have seen a dog abort. She is now going through a false pregnancy, milk, nesting and all. Other than that she is in great shape. How long should it be for her to come in heat and breed again? We have several people on a waiting list and they are all being very patient as they understand these things can happen and I don't want to breed until I know she is ready. I know cattle can do this sort of thing as we raise cattle as well but have never had it happen to one of ours. Thanks in advance.

I have a 3 year old Black Lab who has developed the condition that you are referring to. The rash is nasty and has erupted all over his stomach and is slowly creeping to his legs. He is miserable. I just wanted to share our experience in case someone comes up with a miracle cure. We are not in a position to spend thousands of dollars to correct this problem. The best I can do is prevent the itching. We are absolutely crazy about his animal and feel helpless.

First let me say how much I love all animals. But I believe that it takes a smart person to know that they should get their pet fixed so they do not breed. I live in a small town, Hampton, South Carolina and you would not believe the ignorance of these people! They let their pets run loose, "As God intended" so I am told. And they breed! The end result are hundreds of puppies and kittens left to run wild and breed too. There isn't much you can do here about it, until someone gets bit or there is a case of rabies. People outside of town shoot these animals if they become a problem on their property. There is a animal shelter in the county, but it usefulness is limited. People are just too ignorant or don't care that these poor creatures are left to suffer and die. All of this could be prevented if "smart" people would get their pets spayed or neutered. Thank You

I have a miniature pinscher that is 2 1/2 years old. I bred her for the first time but the dogs did not tie. She is showing some signs of pregnantcy but I don't feel any puppies and she really hasn't gotten any bigger, maybe a little wider in her ribs. She has just a drop of milk in her lower nipples. She would be due in 2 days. I started taking her temp just incase and it is 99.7. Does a dogs temp drop if it's a false pregnancy? Could somebody let me know as soon as possible, please.

I had a beagle she weighed >1 lb. after staying up with her for 44 hours. straight and taking her to the vet..she died..I have been having a hard time with it..I prayed and dealed..just to be let down..she wouldn't eat..I gave her crushed, regular, watered down, A/D, Nutri-Cal, everything I could just for that to happen..I wish you the very best..I will tell you this..at least you gave him/her the best time she ever knew for the short time she was here..3 weeks later and we have a healthy beautiful 10 wk old rott mix..I am still very scared..but, I am more aware of what could happen and what signs to look for..God be with you..there is pet blessings at local churches, I would call and see if someone would..I was un-aware of that or I would of done it..GOOD LUCK

My dog came into heat at the end of June and my husband said that he saw her stuck to a male. At the beginning she vomitted a little bit and her personality definately changed (required a lot more attention) and she still does. Her teats have grown larger but she doesn't seem to be gaining alot of weight. She is a small dog. Is this normal or is it just false pregnancy?

My 8 year old boxer ran away for 3 days in the middle of her last season. She has now turned aggresive toward our cat (who we have also had for 8 years and who she was previously extremely loving towards)and wants constant attention from me. Also, she is discharging a clear fluid and off her food a bit. Is she having pups, and if so should I be concerned with her age as she has never had pups before? HELP!

My lab puppy got extremely ill and I took her to the vet today. My vet stated she probably has parvo because of her sighns but the test came up negative. Is that normal? My other question is, she also said she has alot of hook worms. Can that kill a dog? She gave her several shots and an antibiotic but she passed away this evening. She was bleeding quite a bit out of her bottom, What is your opinion?

I am curiuos to know whether someone has experieinced their dog after having a puppy and the dog being either still born or not surviving and them eating it thereafter? I am worried that since my dog had one of her pups that the rest that have yet to be born are okay? one of my pups died a couple of hours ago from the parvo disease we didn't know she had it until she was diein.. The prob is that her sister has parvo to and we just found out after her sis died and all the vets are closed for the day.The pup is a chihuahua. my quest. is can I do somethin to help her till we can take her to the vet in the morning. and does she have a less likely chance to survive this because she is so small?

It came back worse after we stopped the predisone, weve tried more predisone, antibiotics and antihistimines. nothing has worked. it is now worse, the coloring is mottled it forms a crust or scab and is also worse by his eyes, I have an appointment with a dermatologist, the regular vet is stumped and thinks it might be an immune problem. Has anyone come across anything like this.

I have a 6 month old female doberman. I recently noticed that she has a black spot on the back of her tongue. My first thought is that somewhere down the line she may have some chow in her blood line. Does anyone know if dobermans are known for getting spots or should I be concerned about it being a health issue?

I got a Pitbull Pup 2 weeks ago. He is now 8 weeks old. I KNOW he needs his shots but they say to wait til they are 12 weeks old. I was going to just wait but tonight I found a HUGE LONG white work (Like 3 or 4 inches long) in his diarea. The low cost clinic is open Wedsday (Its Sunday night now) and I need to know if its safe for me to wait two more days before I take him in to be dewormed. If I can SAFELY wait til wedsdsay Id rather because the treatment is so much cheaper. However, if this is serious or life threatening Ill find a vet immediately. Can somebody who knows issue please Please advise me.
