Athletes, Staff
As per our last communique, we have a few more details for you about the
World Cross Country Championships.
PARTICIPATION: We are committing to participating and sending a team to this
event!
DATE: The dates will remain the same: March 24th and 25th.
LOCATION: The location has, once again, been changed; from Brussels to
Ostend, Belgium (approximately 132km away from Brussels). The Local
Organizing Committee will be taking care of transporting us from Brussels to
Ostend.
ACCOMMODATION: The Local Organizing Committee will not be able to
accommodate us until March 22nd. At this time we are looking at staying in
Brussels for the 2 days between our arrival in Brussels, and then move to
Ostend. Details will follow shortly. At this time, we are still confirming
details regarding accommodations in Ostend and Brussels. We will keep you
posted.
FLIGHT: We are in the process of securing ticket changes for the
London-Dublin portions, which will connect appropriately, but will now be
London- Brussels return on British Airways flights. These are e-tickets (or
electronic) and your eticket receipt will be sent to you today by email.
Please bring this receipt with you to the airport.
*** PLEASE DO NOT DISCARD YOUR CURRENT AER LINGUS LONDON-DUBLIN RETURN
TICKET! PLEASE HAND IT IN TO JERRY TIGHE, TEAM MANAGER, UPON ARRIVAL IN
BRUSSELS AS WE WILL BE ABLE TO SECURE A REFUND FOR THIS PORTION.***
Those of you who were not travelling with Aer Lingus and those of you
attending the training camp in Aix-les-Bains will be dealt with on an
individual basis. We will be contacting you(Aix-les-Bains group through
Jerry Tighe).
FINANCIAL: At this time, there are no extra costs involved with the change
of airfare for the loss of the Aer Lingus portion. Those travelling with
other airlines, we will contact you with specific information to your
flight. The costs as we know it at this time are minimal.
We have been informed that accommodations in Ostend will not change from the
prices quoted for Dublin. The costs involved with our potential stay in
Brussels will be communicated to you as soon as possible. We do not foresee
them being higher than the Dublin costs.

Below is the latest Press Release from the IAAF regarding the change of
location.

PRESS RELEASE FOR - IMMEDIATE RELEASE
INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR ATHLETIC FEDERATION

WORLD CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPS MOVED TO OSTEND
8 March 2001
LISBON - Portugal - IAAF President Lamine Diack, on the occasion of the
official Press Conference of the World Indoor Championships, has announced
that the IAAF World Cross Country Championships will now take place in
Ostend, not Brussels, at the request of the Belgian Athletics Federation.
The change is due to the difficulty of finding sufficient hotel rooms in the
Belgian capital to accommodate over 1000 athletes and officials. The event
takes place on the weekend of March 24-25 on the course that will host this
year's Belgian National Championships.
ENDS

Hi everyone,

I would like to let you all know that the uniforms are in the office, but
due to several issues relating to the delivery of them, it will be
impossible for me to send them out to everyone prior to your departure. As a
result, I would like to invite you to pick up your uniforms here at the
Athletics Canada office. If you are close enough to make a short trip here
at the office, and are interested in getting your gear prior to leaving,
please contact me, and let me know when you will drop by.

Anyone who will not or cannot pick up their uniforms prior to departure will
receive them at the airport in Toronto on March 19th (some exceptions may
apply). However, this means that Mark MacDonald, team staff, will have to be
responsible for the gear.

I strongly urge those of you who can make a trip out to our office to do so
between now and March 19th. It would be greatly appreciated by all, and it
would guarantee that you have everything you need, including your luggage
bag prior to departure.

Thanks for your cooperation, it is greatly appreciated.
