If You Knew Lois

You’re pretty sad today
I’m sorry to say, if you knew her.
But go beyond the past few weeks
and take a real close peek, at how you knew her.

Did she take care of you
or one you cared for, too . . . and wasn’t it grand?
Did she make you smile
being bubbly all the while . . .and all of it unplanned?

Or did you go to her party
and eat and drink hearty . . .and always had a great time?
Did she beat you at poker?
Think hard, you joker, count your losses some time.

Did you eat at her meal
and did you ever feel . . . she never missed a course?
Were you stuffed all the way
but ate more anyway, and felt like a horse?

Have Mama’s Race K’s salsa on your lips
dancing on your tastebud tips, and you enjoyed every spice?
Or her taco dip so deep
it would break most every chip. . . be it corn, potato, or rice?

Did she work hard for you
and give 100% in what she could do and the job was done right?
But when it was time to have fun,
did she have more than everyone . . . and did it soberly into the night?

Was she ever your good friend
and with you to the end . . . listening to every word?
Did she do a kindness for you
as would a friend so true, for indeed, she had heard?

So be thankful Iron Chefs
she did not challenge you with beef, or you’d get beat and throw your wok.
And Martha Stewart, too
she could out Martha you, and would not overstate her stock.

And be thankful, her dear friends,
you knew her to the end, and your thoughts were with her.
Let there be joy in your hearts
that Lois is a part, if you knew her.
