Subject: Quinton Benson medical condition update

Quinton went to see the neurosurgeon at Childrens Mercy yesterday and they have determined that he has an arachnoid cyst on his brain. It is pretty big (a little smaller than a baseball). They want him to take medication that treats migraines for 8-12 weeks to make sure that it is the cyst that is causing the headaches and other problems that he has been having. They are pretty sure that it is but want to try this first. The next step will be surgery where they will go inside the skull and put a shunt in the cyst to drain it and keep it drained. They said he will be hospitalized for approx 3 days. It is my understanding that this will remain in place for the rest of his life. Quinton took the news well. His only question to the doctor was "CAN I STILL RACE?" The doctor said yes, go ahead and that's all he heard of the entire conversation. Imagine that!! haha
We want to thank all of you for your concern,support and most of all the prayers that everyone has offered. That's the best medicine ever. Quinton was so surprised at how many of you left him a note here on the website. That made him feel so good and helps give him the strength to say I'm gonna beat this thing and be fine. I will keep you updated as we find out more.
