If he's being paid $500 a week he should be working on it ALL week long. Pay me $ 500 a week & i'll drive there 5 days a week & till & water it. This set up for a slick track talk is crap. If you want a slick smooth track race asphalt. The fast guys like a good 2 groove track. The most fun race to run is wheel to wheel with a guy lap after lap, 1 high 1 low. Its fun for the drivers and the fans.
