tom,sorry i described it the best i could in words,if i had you besides me i could better show you in person,or maybe someone else can better explain it in terms you may understand.basically degreeing the cam not only are you blueprinting it but you are timing the cam to the pistons,thus getting less rock out of the piston and rods at their said stroke.rotate a motor over aat the very top of the stroke.the piston will ''hang'' at the top of the stroke while the rod will still rotate about an inch(rock)..degreeing the cam helps this and in return the piston will not hang out so long at the very top of its stroke.so basically in closing when degreeing the cam your not only blueprinting it and setting it perfectly to your motor,but it takes rock out of the piston and rods,intern timing the cam with the pistons and rods perfectly how it should be.thats the best i can describe it.not only does the motor gotta be timed in total,but the cams also have to be timed with the bottom end,otherwise a catastrophy will happen.
