Subject: need some advice (scared driver in R class)long post

here is our story... My son is 11, he has raced karts for 2 years with great success. we agreed last fall to move to micro's. I bought a car, he drove it at our last kart race of the season after the races, he loved it. I completely rebuilt the car over the winter. he was excited about it the whole time. We attended the practice night at sweet springs, he had difficulty getting the car going (he is barely strong enough to squeeze the clutch lever) he must have killed it a dozen times. when he finally made it onto the track, he really drove the car great, looked really good and natural at driving the car... until about 5 laps in, he drifted too close the wall coming out of turn 2 and brushed the wall after he made the straight, unfortunatley it grabbed the front tire and stopped the car and spun him around. It bent the front axle and we were unable to continue, however, it did not bother him at all, he was pumped up about how much fun it was and he couldn't wait to get back into the seat. He was disappointed the following weekend when the practice race was cancelled. fast forward to friday night opening season race. He was happy when I picked him up from school friday afternoon because we were not rained out. but when it came time for him to get into the car to go weigh in, he started to get in, paused, and then stepped back and away from the car. suddenly now he is afraid of the car and does not want to run it. He was upset about backing out and he climbed in the truck and sat there for most of the time until we left. I just don't understand what happened. any suggestions on what I can do? I have put so much time, hard work, and money into this. I know he can drive this car, and I know he wants to. he showed me that at the practice, but for some reason now he is scared of it, and i will not force him to do it. thanks. David
