Second half of the draw played and the question all Zedfans need answering, how many of those 3 Zeds that we counted into this round are still standing.

Well Good News and Bad News

Good news all three through, without dropping a frame

But the Bad news at least one Zed will progress no further.

Winning players drew their opponant in next round, and yet again a Zed v Zed match Keith Bryant v Alan Pointer
CaptZed v CyberZed, very reminiscent of that scene from Sparticus where Kirk Douglas is forced to fight and kill his best mate Tony Curtis. All I can say is 'I am Sparticus'

John 'Numbers' Runghen came very close to drawing another bye. With only one match still to finish, there were two spaces left on the next round draw, one versus Mark Parker the other v John Runghen. With one bye to be entered, last winner Jason Dobinson had only those two to pick from, the other would get the bye. Luckily he drew John, otherwise John would have had two successive byes. So lucky old Mark Parker gets the only bye in the round.

Notable results Justin Young bts Mark Yates and draws Joe Ambrose
Keith Hannon gets another W/O, but draws Wayne Pardon

Well that's it for me for another year, last 32 pretty good, better than most Zeds. Obviously I can't progress any further having been drawn against top Zed, star of Interleague, three man team, and perennial Zed of the Year Keith Bryant. Surely there's absolutely no way I could win this match, or rather missmatch. After all he's a regular fixture in both Zed and Phoenix starting teams and I'm just a lowly benchwarmer. If he were to lose to me he'd have to emmigrate, the shame would follow him around like the stench that follows a decomposing corpse,(that's if its being wheeled around on a cart)

I probably won't turn up, what's the point, he can't lose.

or can he ?????????????????

Thank you Observer. An epic struggle that could have gone either way and obviously a lot closer than the mismatch predicted by the good Capt. All that's needed now is for Numbers to keep me company in the last 16.

And so as it had to be, we are down to just 2 Zeds.
The 2-1 scoreline of my defeat by Keith suggests the game was closer than it really was. In truth, Keith played all the Pool in the first two frames, and only the cruellest of in-offs for the white following the black in frame 2, gave me a chance of a third frame which I hadn't deserved. Having said that the 3rd frame proved to be the most competitive of the 3. There was a moment when had I been able to convert a difficult chance, the game might have opened up for me. But the chance was spurned and Keith proceeded to take out a majestic finish.

So Keith now has the advantage, being already into the last 16, where hopefully John will join him next week.
