Chapter 65
Principal: Would someone like to explain to me what is happening?
Both girls started talking at once, the Principal held up his hand
Principal: One at a time, Tyra?
Tyra: What happened was that I was sitting outside the school on the steps having my lunch…I had my walkman on and was reading a book. I look up in the distance to see Kelly and Jamal in the middle of what looked like an argument. I ignored them and kept reading my book. Later she was coming up the stairs and she stepped on my lunch. I told her to watch where she was going, and she started calling me names and she hit me first
Kelly was about to jump out of her seat,
Kelly [shouting]: She’s lying! She called me Big Foot!
Lionel pushed her back in her seat
Lionel: Shut up Kelly
Principal: Quiet young lady. Anything else Tyra
Tyra: She called me a homo bitch
Principal: Kelly we don’t tolerate such abuse in this school.
Kelly: But she started it!
Principal: Do you have anything to say about what happened?
Kelly: She was in my way and she began insulting me and called me Big Foot
Tyra: She’s lying!
Principal: Look, I’ll have to suspend you both for one week, and no more fighting ok?
Kelly & Tyra [moodily]: Yes Principal
Principal: You can both leave. I’ll call your parents and inform them.
Des took Tyra out first, Lionel followed with Kelly. When they got outside, Tyra and Des were met by Jiz, Lami, and Cat.
Cat: What happened?
Tyra: We were suspended for a week
Jiz: Sorry to hear that
Tyra: Its cool, I need the week off anyways. Plus someone had to give that bitch a good f***ing punch and I’m glad that person was me
All 5 of them laughed.
Des: Don’t worry, we’ll make sure you catch up on all the school work
Tyra: Thanks. Well I guess I better grab my stuff and go home and face my parents
Cat: Why don’t you stay till the end of today so that we can all take you home, school’s almost over
Tyra: Nah I’ll be fine
Des: Cat’s got a point, its just that if you’re going home alone, I don’t trust Kelly, that chick is weird sometimes and she can try something funny.
Lami: For safety sake, you might just wanna stay, Des and I will take you home. In fact, if you wanna, why don’t we all hang out tonight
Cat: Maybe hang with Jackie, it has been a lil while since we saw our godchild.
Jiz: That sounds nice
Des: C’mon y’all lets go back in
All 5 of them went back into what was left off the last class.
Meanwhile, when Kelly came out, Krys and Lib were there and Krys was still pissed off. She took hold of Kelly’s hand and went off into a corner, with Lib tagging along
Krys: What the hell is your problem? Don’t you know how stupid it is to fight?
Kelly: Look its no biggie
Krys: For you it isn’t, in your old school it may not have been but over here, it’s major. You don’t go around beating anyone you want like you used to! Already you got teachers hollering on you for harassment, now this? Especially with Tyra! I mean anyone else I can almost understand, but Ty? Now I know it was you who did her wrong!
Kelly: Why all the drama?
Krys: I just don’t want you to get expelled from another school. Oh yeah one more thing, whatever ish you got with Jamal, sort it out, don’t go bringing anyone else into it!
She walked off with Lib still tagging along.
Kelly simply shook her head and walked out of the school
Kelly [muttering under her breath]: Stupidness, as if her rep is the most important thing to me right now,
Krys and Lib went back into class and managed to catch the last 20 minutes of the day. After the class, they caught up with Des, Tyra, Cat, Jiz and Lib
Krys: Ty?
Tyra turned back to see who was calling her, she saw it was Krys so she stopped
Tyra: Whassup?
Krys: Jus wanted to say how sorry I am for Kelly’s behaviour
Tyra: You got no need to be sorry, after all you didn’t make her call me names and hit me
Krys: But she’s my friend…well kinda…so I feel I gotta apologise somehow
Tyra: Well you don’t gotta but thanks anyway
Krys: Its cool, I hope you get better
Tyra: Believe me I am better, but thank you still
There was an awkward silence with the 5 facing Krys and Lib. Lami looked away, slyly pulled Des close [Des was more than willing to oblige anyway]. Des was looking around, Cat was biting her nails [she did this whenever she was edgy], Jiz was glaring at Lib who just looked down and Tyra just looked straight at Krys. Des spoke up
Des: Krys, how are you doing? You never talk to me anymore, did I do something wrong?
Krys: Um…um… n…nothing’s wrong, I been busy, sorry I…I…haven’t been around that much
Des: It’s cool, as long as we’re not fighting
Krys [hastily]: Definitely not, we’re cool, just busy.
Des: Aiight then
Cat: People, we gotta go now we have to see J and the baby at 6
Des: Oh right, we gotta go. Aiight then y’all bye Krys
Krys: Bye y’all.
Des and all went out of the school hall leaving Krys and Lib standing.
Outside the school, with Des, Lams, Cat, Jiz and Tyra
Des: Ty, do you wanna stay over at mine for today so that we all can go and see Jackie later in the day
Tyra: Nah, I think I wanna go home and face the music with my parents- not that they really care anyway
Cat: Jiz and I could take you home since you live along our way
Tyra: You don’t have to
Cat: We want to
Tyra: Aiight then its cool
Des gave her a hug
Des: Aiight then we’d better be going, we’ll see you later
Tyra: God willing
Des and Lami got in Des’ car while Cat, Jiz and Tyra went into Jiz’ car.
Des and Lami got to Des’ house and went in
Des [yelling]: MOM! MOM! MOM!
No one answered
Lams: Maybe she’s gone to work or something
Des: Today’s her day off work
Lams: Maybe she left a note and had to go and see someone
Des: I ain’t seen no…
Lams reached onto the coffee table in the room and picked up a note and began to read
Lams [reading from the note]: Des sweetie, gone to see Aunt Belinda, will call you later, love Mom.
He looked at Des
Lams: See you got nothing to worry about
Des sighed, Lams held out his arms, and Des walked into them
Des: I don’t know why I been so jumpy and stressed
Lams: I guess its cos you have been through so much
Des: I just want everyone to be happy
Lams: I know, but you know with our clique its hard to keep everyone happy- just make sure you stay sane and I love you and will always do so
Des snuggled closer into his arms
Des: You’re so good to me
Lams: Now c’mon why don’t I make us something to eat while you lay down and take a break before we go over to Jackie’s.
Des smiled and kissed him
Des: Aiight then, thank you baby
She headed upstairs while Lams went to the kitchen to cook
At Cat’s house, Cat was in the bathroom when she heard Jiz yelling down the phone
Jiz: Get over it! We’re done ok!
He slams his phone on the bed
Cat: You’re ok?
Jiz looked startled at the sound of her voice
Jiz: I’m fine, I told my insurance people to leave me alone, but they won’t stop bugging me
Cat didn’t really believe this but she simply laughed and said
Cat: That’ll teach you not to buy your insurance from a website called www.welovetoripyourassoff.com
Jiz laughed and gave her a kiss on her head and went into the other room
Des called Jackie
Des: Hi honey, we all still on for tonight?
Jackie: Yeah sure, Mom’s out for the night and I’m getting the place ready
Des: Don’t sweat it at all, Lams and I are bringing the food and Cat for some reason wants to bring some pillows, Jiz is bringing all the videos and games and all that ish
Jackie: Aww you guys
Des: Don’t worry ma, we’ll be there in an hour
Jackie: Later
At 6pm that day, Des and Lami were already there, Tyra had arrived but no Cat and Jiz
Jackie’s doorbell rang,
Jackie: Coming!
She went to the door while holding Symphony across her shoulder. She opened the door and found Des, Lams, and Tyra outside the door
Des: HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jackie’s face broke out in smiles
Jackie: Hi guys!!
She stepped aside while Des and the others went in. Des dropped the bag she was carrying and gave Jackie a hug, after which she took Symphony off her arms
Jackie: Y’all come in
Des [talking to Symphony]: Hi honey, its godmother Des here, I’ll be looking after you today!
Lams: J, are we fighting that you ain’t gonna give a brother some love?
Jackie laughed
Jackie: Come here you big goof!
She gave him a hug
Lams: How you doing girl?
Jackie: I’m good
Jackie stepped back and looked at Tyra
Jackie: What happened to you?
Tyra: Got in a fight
Jackie: With who?
Tyra: With that bitch Kelly
Jackie looked surprised
Jackie: What happened?
Tyra: Long story, will tell you later, but first where do you want us to put all these?
Jackie: in the kitchen thank you
At 7pm, Cat and Jiz still hadn’t arrived
Jackie: Do you know where those two are?
Des: I called Cat about half an hour ago and she said they were nearby
Jackie: That can’t be right, I mean she only lives about 20 or so minutes from me
Des: But then she did sound kinda in a hurry, I’d say out of breath
They all looked at each other
Lams: Do you have a binocular?
Jackie: As a matter of fact I do, it’s in the glass cabinet
Lams went and took it out
Jackie: Why do you need it?
Lams: Can one see the road from your balcony?
Jackie was still confused
Jackie: Y…yeah
Lams: C’mon y’all lets go upstairs to the balcony
Tyra [whispering to Des]: What that n***a up to now?
Des: I have no idea but lets follow him
They all went upstairs, and were outside on the balcony, Lams used the binoculars to scan the road
Lams: Just as I suspected, out of breath did you say Cat sounded huh Des?
Des: Y…yeah
Lams: Well I think there’s a reason for it
Lams gave the binoculars to Des
Lams: Look to your left, just off the main road about two or so houses from the lady who always has her Christmas lights on, what do you see?
Des: A car
Lams: What kinda car?
Des: A black Jeep
Lams: Adjust the lens, and what’s the car plate number
Des: I can’t really read it
Lams: But what’s the car doing?
Des focused closer
Des: Its…its rocking
Lams: From side to side?
Des: Yeah
Lams: Now try again if you can read the plate number
Des: Hold on…I think…it says JF1TCH…isn’t that John’s plate number?
Lams: Go figure!
Tyra: So that means Cat and John are….
Everyone: Ewwwww
Des: See we should never have left those two alone!
Everyone began laughing, but just as they were heading down the stairs to the kitchen, Des’ phone began to ring
Des: Its Cat
Des picked up the phone
Des: Hello?...Cat? Yeah, ok then will do so now
Des stopped the others
Des [speaking slowly]: People, Cat just told me that she’ll be here in 2 minutes, and that she and Jiz were coming separately,
Tyra: How can that be, John is in a car getting his groove on…
Jackie: maybe they’re finished
Lams: The car was still rocking hard when Des checked wasn’t it?
Des: Yeah it was, they can’t have been done that quick anyway
Tyra: So if it isn’t Cat…
Jackie: It has to be…
But before she could finish the doorbell rang
Cat [on the otherside of the door]: Jackie, its Cat open up!
Lams: Oh God!
