Subject: dvd-rom not working properly

hi
i have a toshiba dvd-rom drive which i bought here in england about 2 months ago and has been working fine. however, recently it has not been playing my region 2 dvd's and will only play the region one dvd's.
it is a region free drive as is the software i am using and the xp region counter says i still have region changes available (last time i looked i think it said i have 4 changes left). With region 2 movies it will play like the first couple of seconds then freeze and then possibly unfreeze for a few more seconds, but then freeze again. i have tried several dvd's including a brand new ones so the problem is not with the disk. i have also tried several different players.

can anyone help me????
if so thanks in advance

ric
