Author: Their children and grandchildren compete and this is how they would want to be judged. It's hard to find judges that know what to look for that don't know most of the kids. Especially for a prelim.

As far as the judges knowing many of the contestants, that is true. However, if you get to know them, you will also know how fair they are. They love all the kids and would not give the children anything less than their honest opinion.
