It is my understanding the students in Appoquinimink Schools are required to complete summer reading and a subsequent book report before school commences. Are MOT Charter students expected to do this, also?

Hello everyone!!

In an effort to streamline the office, we have asked Bob to create a message board so that you can check out questions at your conveniece which is not always during office hours :o)

Please give us one business day to answer your questions and we promise to check it as often as we can.

I am going to post some messages with regard to common questions I have gotten since in my experience as a trainer if one person has a question you can pretty much bet that at least one other person has the same one.

It has been brought to our attention that some parents have suggested that they would like to begin to approach local businesses with regard to making donations, buying ad space, etc. to raise money.

Please understand that no one should make any requests on behalf of M.O.T. without prior permission from the school.

Barbara asked me to post some of my favorite summer reading lists and other websites for summer academic fun since many of you have been asking for these activities. These are some of my favorites as a mom and librarian. I would suggest copying and pasting the web addresses for easier navigation.

This is the Core Knowledge website's summer list for elementary-aged students. As many of you know, MOT's Paragon curriculum is based on the Core Knowledge sequence. Having your children read some of these suggested titles (abridged forms are recommended if the children are reading them by themselves)will really prepare them for the next year. Parents may also want to read the appropriate "What your __ grader needs to know" book by E.D. Hirsch with their child/children--my kids have LOVED reading the stories in these books with me!!)

This is a WONDERFUL site which lists a wide variety of books for grade levels 1-6; be forewarned that this is a website from a Massachusetts school district, so there is a section in each grade level of books for Massachusetts which folks can simply ignore or read to bone up on their knowledge of this state!!

This is a reading motivation/quiz site that also has a nice book selection tool. Students read books, quiz on them and earn prizes for some pretty cool prizes.

I have a son who is actively involved in DE Special Olympics and very much wants to continue participating in their sports programs, many of which are only offered through the school setting. I would like to know if there are any other special needs children attending MOT Charter who want to participate on a MOT Charter team. My hope is that we can start a program at the school this year and I would like to know if there are any interested parents/teachers who would like to help get this program going. It is also a wonderful way to involve the whole school community as many programs have "united" teams that match Special Olympic athletes with "peers" from their school. I would appreciate any help in getting this wonderful program implemented at our new school. Thank you.
