I quit the job six months ago because it was horrible. First of all, he's making more than I did and I started before he did. Things change big time with MaBSTOA since it's not civil service. I was in the Hudson Pier on West Side Highway and W.15th Street. I was being paid forty cents less an hour than he was. I too was fooled by the letter that stated 13.57.
Tell him to enjoy the 8-4 trick while it lasts. Eventually, he'll get stuck in the 10p to 6A sweep shift. If your lucky, you'll do a year and a half. Although 4 to 5 is not uncommon at all on "the sweep" . The 63 buses were murder on me. Even though I'm out 6 months, my knees are still bothereing me from walking up the equvalent of thirteen flights of stairs a night. I ddin't go to college and graduate to deal with that.
For get about TWU 100. They sleep in the same bed as MTA management. The won't do a thing for you except put on a nice show about "how hard we work for you". Nothing but mirrors and smoke if you ask me. Local 100 has a bunch of dudes up in Albany who are supposed to be constantly lobbying for us. That's a crock if I ever heard one. Those guys are just sitting up there partying and having fun. My biweekly donation to that fund was twenty five cents a check. Some of these guys actually throw 20 every two weeks their way.
So your husband better think twice if he wants to stick a job out that offers a 25/55 retirement with no medical benefits upon retirement. Did they mention that to him at 1250 Broadway? Oh, did thay also mention to him about all the guys who die from lung disease and cancer there? I went back to being a nightclub bouncer and commercial photographer. The money was 3x better and the job was a hell of a lot less taxing on my body.
