I agree. What if potions were the commonest, but also their functions not quite as extravagant? Like potions of dragon breath would be so rare that they are considered to be things of legend.

I don't mind about the swords, but let there be a clear and decisive history to each of them. Their making, their legend, their role in the world. I think that such swords should have been created with very clear purposes in mind when they were made. Whether they or lost or not may have to do with the fact that their function is not needed so much in the world as it is now.

I also like the ideas of the Dragons as the gods. I like lesser dragons also, but I was thinking of them as always being aligned with the major dragons, like extensions of their essences that escape like dreams into a waking world...

I think that the gods should be lessened. The world should be polytheistic, but not so varied in that there are hundreds of gods for every particular culture.

I think that we need so set down how many countries are going to exist at the start. We also need to build slight knowledge of them, what gods, what beliefs, etc. Nothing major, just a skeleton...
