Meshullum

Original Powers

+1 Enchantment

Meshullum was created in 694 by the wizard Akreemon for his henchman Hattush Bilgai. Hattush, a red haired warrior of fiery temperment, loved the sword, the only gift he ever got from his surly friend and employer. Hattush often used the weapon on his missions to procure ancient tomes of eldritch aspect, and he became quite skilled at battling the undead guardians of those librams.

So attached was he to this sword, that when it was stolen from him by the Ghul Lord Mijaiah, he stopped at nothing on his quest to get it back. Akreemon offered to enchant another sword, but Hattush wanted his sword back.

He battled the Ghul lord and slew him, but the sword was already gone, sold to a slaver for a night's pleasure. Hattush followed the trail of this slaver, eventually discovering his name: Mahol Darda. He cornered the slaver and wanted to buy the sword back. Mahol had taken a liking to the longsword and didn't want to sell it. Hattush lost his temper and attacked the slaver. Mahol impaled Hattush on the blade.

As he died, Hattush and the sword, Meshullum, somehow merged. Hattush's spirit infused the magic blade and the blade was given Hattush's temper and became a Flaming sword. The sword flamed up and caught Mahol's tents on fire and ruined the slaver. He dropped the fiery sword down a deep well.

Meshullum languished in that well for quite some time until a boy, who went down into the well on a dare, found it. But he did not bring it up then. He went back, alone, and fetched it home. The boy, Megiddo, trained with the weapon and became quite skilled. He found that by command, he could will the sword to become sheathed in fire. (He was angry at his father, and was out by the barn hitting a pole with the weapon and cursed... and the curse brought on the flames... and burnt down the barn.)

Megiddo, not suited to life as a farmer, gave in to his wanderlust and roamed the kingdoms of the world. He fought in the Battles of Asher and Geber, and he found that his sword was particularly effective against the undead minions of the necromancer Hacaliah.

Hacaliah eventually managed to kill the upstart Megiddo who was ruining his plans, but his minions could not grasp Meshullum. It was left on the battleground where Megiddo fell.

Found by Aloth the Bard of Calcol, it was used by him in the Wars of Paruah. His fame spread to all the surrounding nations. He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five. He described plant life, from the Ezrahile of Iddo to the hyssop that grows out of walls. he also taught about animals and birds, reptiles and fish. Men of all nations came to listen to Aloth's wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world who had heard of his wisdom. The sword, Meshullum, heard and learned as well.

When Aloth died, the sword was passed to his disciple Elaminog. Elaminog kept the sword in his family for generations. When the Wars of Omalluch came to pass, Meshullum was brought out to help bring down Emperor Ginnethon and Sisera. It was wielded in this war by Basemath, daughter of Ramoth. The songs of the bravery of Basemath and Meshullum are still sung by bards today.

Meshullum is still in the hands of the descendants of Aloth. Currently it is wielded by Bashan the Warrior-Bard.
