I have fond memories of growing up in a tenement.I was born in the set in bed of my parents house at 28 osbourne st.I remember going to the public baths on a thursday night (ladies night)the bath was so deep,as much hot water as you liked and a wee bar of soap and a hot towel,all right in the summer but on a winters night freezing going home.I was lucky our close was next to the steamie.I also remember everyones key opened every door in the close,handy if you were locked out.
My mum and dad were always skint so mammy would go to the warehouse with her line on a saturday,and the pawn on a monday.She used to pawn my brothers suit on the monday and hoped he was not going out midweek!I remember hogmonay at glasgow cross the one o clock gang used to come after the clock had played the new year in.Fond memories but poverty all round.
