LOS ANGELES (AP) - Comedian Buddy Lester, who appeared in the Rat Pack movie "Ocean's 11" and Jerry Lewis' "The Nutty Professor," has died at age 86, according to his family.

Lester died of cancer Friday (Oct. 5) at a nursing home, his son, Paul, said Tuesday. A memorial service was planned Wednesday at Lorenzen Mortuary in the San Fernando Valley.

The Chicago-born standup comedian served in the Navy during World War II before finding work in television, movies, radio and on stage.

He eventually became Frank Sinatra's opening act in Las Vegas and appeared with the Rat Pack - Sinatra, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford - in the 1960s films "Ocean's 11" and "Sergeants 3."

He also made numerous appearances alongside Lewis in such films as "The Patsy" (1964), "The Big Mouth" (1967), "Hardly Working" (1980) and "Cracking Up" (1983).

Among his television credits was a recurring role on "The New Phil Silvers Show" in 1963. He also played Coley on the 1970s crime show "Starsky and Hutch" and mimicked Al Capone in the 1973 TV movie comedy "Poor Devil."
