Malcolm Willis sanoo albinismista seuraavaa [Genetics of the Dog, s. 67]:

"Complete albinism cc is fairly rare in dogs and likely to remain so.According to Burns and Fraser (1966) the cc would give blue eyes but truealbinism means that there is a total lack of melanin so that the hair iswhite and the eyes pink. Any blue-eyed white must contain melanin in the eye
and cannot thus be a true albino."

Monilla valkoisilla villakoirilla voi syntyess��n olla vaaleanpunainen kirsu ja tassunpohjat (ne eiv�t siis ole albiinoita), mutta yleens� ne tummuvat muutaman p�iv�n sis�ll� (ehk�p� valkoisten villakoirien kasvattajat voivat kertoa t�st� tarkemmin).

Albinismi on monessa rotum��ritelm�n mukaan hylk��v� virhe. En ole koskaan kuullut albiinosta villakoirasta, enk� usko, ett� pentujesi is� on sellainen.

Mutta t�st� tarinasta voimme mielest�ni oppia sen, ett� vaikka ressessiivisesti periytyv� sairaus ei tulekaan esiin pennuissa, jollei molemmilla vanhemmilla ole t�m� sairauden aiheuttava geeni, niin pennut voivat kuitenkin kantaa sit� perim�ss��n. Ja sairaan vanhemman kaikki pennut ovat varmoja sairauden kantajia, ja n�in siirt�v�t sairaan geenin tuleville sukupolville. T�ss� yksi syy siihen, miksi koiran vanhempien ja muiden sukulaisten terveystutkimukset ja niiden rekister�inti rotuj�rjest�n toimesta on niin t�rke��. Ja t�m�h�n tehd��n vain rekister�idyist� koirista.
