It does no good to watch NY1 or check the MTA webisite for train delays - constantly they say trains are running on or close to schedule then I get on the platform and find that the train is being held due to a stalled train, or the train is not running at all or stops 5, 6, 7 times between stations for unknow reasons resulting in significant delay. What is "close to schedule" mean to these people? Then there is the overcrowding. We are forced to be more intimate with strangers than our friends/spouses if we want to get to work. It isn't as if there are no projections as to the City's growth rates. AS that information is and has been available why isn't the system gradually adjusted to accommodate rather than waiting until it reaches a magnitude more difficult to address? Yes, it is about money and bureaucracy, and has as much to do with politics and the distribution of funds as it does the MTA, but it is the MTA we pay and ultimately they need to address the abominable service to their clients. If this is a first rate city it should boast first rate transporation.
...Announcements that for some reason are only projected when a train is entering the station - therefore the announcement cannot be heard; Or the train is stopped and no announcement is made; trains with an express sign but that go local or the reverse and no announcement is made; announcements that are garbled or mumbled; multiple 7 trains dropped off at Queensboro before 1 N train arrives which make for crowded platforms and passengers trying to force themsleves on already overcrowded trains because they have been so delayed; having to wait for 3 or more trains before being able to get on one as they are too crowded.
And passengers have responsibilities too to help keep the trains running smoothly and to respect fellow passengers - let people off the train first - stop acting like ignorant cattle - don't force yourself on a crowded train. We will brush against eachother but have some self awareness and try not to cause injury or acknowledge and apologize if you step on someone. Be aware that children may be on the train and below eye level or at the level of your bag; if you have children keep control of them; There is no need for train travel to be so demoralizing and awful.
