A Call For Scripts & Playwrights



The New Scroll Bearers Festival is seeking scripts and playwrights to participate in the development of a summer new works theater festival, featuring short, one-act plays developed by selected playwrights. We have slots for 12 playwrights.


The call is open to playwrights, primarily Black, Latino and Native American, of all levels of experience, living in the greater New York City area. Selected area playwrights will participate in a weekly workshop towards developing their works as a team. Workshop members will work toward developing staged readings of their work in June and July by members of The PART and Urban Expressionists Lab
.
The Deadline for application is December 31, 2002, for the workshop beginning in February.

Applicants must submit the following:
1. A cover-letter that includes their name, address, telephone numbers and e-mail address.
2. A statement (2 pages maximum) siting: their experience in theater, playwriting and/or creative writing; What your goal(s) are in the arts and theater; how participating in a theater festival as a playwright will help you reach your goal(s) in theater.
3. A three page writing sample of your work in dramatic writing.
4. A resume or biography, highlighting your work as a writer and or theater artist.
5. A short description of the 15 to 30-minute piece you would like to write and develop through the festival.

Packages must be postmarked by December 31, 2002. Notice will be sent out in mid January. Materials will not be returned.
