Tracey,

Actually, Volume 2 doesn't have that many activities related to climate that I can think of. Of course, I don't always notice because I am used to being able to go outside pretty much year round. I wouldn't recommend skipping around during units, but I guess it would work to do a unit from volume 1 and then a unit from volume 2. Each unit is pretty self contained. I'm just not sure that it would flow as well. You could also swap around the units of a volume.

An independent clause is just a group of words, separated by a comma, that don't form a complete sentence. It sounds more complicated than it is. I personally believe that Warriner's English Grammar and Composition is the very best grammar book ever written. The copy I have is from 1977, but I'm pretty sure it's still in print because I've noticed it in offices of pastors and anyone else who needs a good reference book. It includes any grammar rule you'd ever come upon and it's very simple to read. I refer to it whenever I'm unsure of correct usage.

Happy Homeschooling!
