Some ideas for making ANYTHING more challenging:

- require a research paper during each unit; nothing big, maybe a page a week summarizing what the child has learned
- oral reports at the end of the week on any topic studied that week; this is great for working on speaking skills. The child could read from the research paper he has been working on.
- book reviews; child would read a book ON TOPIC for the week and then give a summary and opinion on the book. The book could be fiction, biography, etc.
- extra map work or geography study
- add in science experiments to go along with what is being studied; stress the hypothesis/conclusion, etc. part of the study

These are just some ideas off of the top of my head. If I think of anything else, I'll add to it later.

Kris
