....And the funny part is, a lot of people will just hear the familiar licks of those bands ringing out across the campground and come running as a result. I guarantee you that in the mind-bending rush of music that will assault concertgoers all weekend, the cover bands will get a good reception. And the reason I say that is because I've noticed that a lot of people only remember memorable Phish, Widespead Panic and String Cheese shows by the COVER SONGS they played rather then by the extensive selections of originals they also might have pulled off. I guess there's no good way to purge the sounds of old, comfortable and familiar bands from people's memory banks, and so, as a result, cover bands thrive. Personally, I LOVE hearing a good, obscure cover tune done justice by a band that I admire (ie, Phish doing "Loving Cup", "Emotional Rescue", "A Day in the Life", etc.), but I also like to hear their originals as well, so maybe having all those cover bands there will allow some of the "bigger" bands to focus more on their original material. Of course, Les Claypool doing Jethro Tull's "Locomotive Breath" was one of my own personal highlights last year, so I guess I'm just talking sh*t. Either way, though, I think Bonnaroo is gonna be the biggest thing to hit this summer, just like it was last year....
