I went last year, and was somewhat unprepared. Make sure you cover your ground and bring plenty of supplies. However, to stay in a hotel during an event this grand would be the wrong way to go in my opinion. Half of the entertainment is in the campground. Go prepared for camping, bring plenty of water and food. Prepare to be hot, sweaty, and unbathed for the entire weekend. There is no reason to leave the festival once you are there. Only if you're too good to hang out 75000 other dirty stinky people should you stay in a hotel. And if that is the case, you've missed the point completely. Go, stink, have fun!!!!! Bonnaroo!!!
