Gomez would rock at the next 'Roo!
Here are a couple of odd-ball choices I thought might expand the Bonnaroo lineup beyond the usual group of "jambands" that we all know and love. Some of these are really ambitious and stretch the idea of what type of music should be represented at the festival, but, oddly enough, I think most of them would fit if they were sandwiched between bands like String Cheese, Galactic, Moe. and Widespread Panic:

1. Beck -- a no brainer; he would funk everyone up and make them shake their tailfeathers, plus he's a genius songwriter

2. Radiohead -- sure they were supposed to play Field Day, and they're a tad moody for the Bonnaroo crowd, but do you really think no one would be interested in hearing their spacey art-rock on the main stage one night? I think Thom Yorke would LOVE Bonnaroo if he happened to be exposed to it...

3. The Tower of Power Horns -- old school funk and soul; they were on the Superfly "Sounds of Bonnaroo Vol. 4" sampler that they handed out at the last 'Roo, so who knows? If they can book James Brown and the Meters, they should book these guys....

4. Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks -- former frontman for Pavement (one of Trey Anastasio's favorite bands, by the way) and a killer solo artist taboot. I have a feeling he'd pick up a lot of new fans if he played Bonnaroo.

5. The White Stripes -- okay, so they're considered an "alternative" band (whatever that means), but who wouldn't want to check them out on one of the side stages? I would!

6. King Crimson -- these guys are long overdue for some serious exposure in front of a Bonnaroo audience. Plus, Les Claypool is a big fan and has been playing Crimson's "Thela Hun Ginjeet" for a few years now....

7. The Residents -- c'mon these guys are classic! And after the big response the Flaming Lips' brand of zany art-rock received at the late-night tent, these guys would be a natural choice....

8. Pink Floyd -- sure they haven't written a decent song or toured in quite a few years, but a man can dare to dream, can't he?

9. Leftover Salmon -- 'nuff said right there....

10. Cracker -- these guys are playing the "Mid-Atlantic Music Festival" this year and have played the "Moe.-down" before. They just rock! Oh My Cracker Where Art Thou?

11. Blues Traveler -- I would be surprised if these guys didn't pop up in the next Bonnaroo lineup.

12. Indigenous -- Native American Allman Brothers-type rock 'n roll...the guitar player for this band is great even if many of their songs tend to sound the same....

13. George Clinton -- next to James Brown he's the reigning king of funk! Where is this guy? He should have played the VERY FIRST BONNAROO!!

PLUS, a little Phish might not hurt the bill, though their presence might overshadow some of the smaller bands.

Any other ideas? Disagreements?
