Charmilyn Lee clings onto the back rail of the cart that bears hay. The 17-year old lost her grasp when the cart bounced violently over a patch of rocks. She was tumbling down, off into the shrubs. Charmilyn rolled until she could feel her head bumped the roots of the tree trunk. She was too tired to get up, her black braids mussed up and brown slant-eyes weary. She compels herself up, her back on the trunk of the tree, rubbing the tender spot of her head. That will be swollen tomorrow. She cringes, pulling her hands onto her lap. She sat there in comfortable silence. Charmilyn looks where she tumbled; there was a visible trail in the snow. She yawns sleepily; it will be a drag to hike back up.
