 I'm back! I had so much fun where I went. Here's chapter 5. It may seem a little slow but things will start to heat up. As always tell me what you think.

“Can I Touch You?”
Chapter 5

Omari parked his car in a nearby parking lot and walked to the Old Paramount Theater. He saw Simone standing under a streetlight near the corner of Stocker & Deagen. Omari started walking towards her noticing that her hair was flipped and she was wearing some pinstriped pants with a white halter-top and a white Kangol hat. She smiled when she saw him, revealing her glossy lips.

Simone: Good evening Mr. Grandberry.
Omari: Good evening Miss Jacobs. (taking her arm in his and beginning to walk down the block) I still don’t understand why you didn’t want me to come and pick you up.
Simone: When you told me the neighborhood you lived in it made mines sound like the slums. Besides, I was in the neighborhood anyway.
Omari: How come?
Simone: I had some business to take care of.
Omari: Business like what?
Simone: My business.
Omari: So you’re not gonna tell me?
Simone: (stopping and turning to face him) If it is meant for you to know, you’ll find out in due time.
Omari: Food for thought.
Simone: Yeah, wrap it up and save it for later.

They walked towards the ticket booth and got tickets for the movie “Blacula”. Afterwards they sat across from each other in a dimly lit restaurant.

Omari: I actually thought that movie was going to be scary.
Simone: I thought the same the first time I saw it. To my surprise I couldn’t stop laughing.
Omari: Yeah, it was kinda funny.
Simone: One of the guys reminded me of Roles Royce and the song “Car Wash”.
Omari: What you know about Roles Royce?
Simone: I know my mother had to be their biggest fan. She’d play their album from dawn to dusk.
Omari: My father knew the lead singer.
Simone: Really?
Omari: Yeah. Use to go to jam sessions with them and everything.
Simone: That’s tight.
Omari: Yeah…so what kind of music do you like?
Simone: Mostly neo-soul.
Omari: Neo-soul like Maxwell?
Simone: Yeah. I love me some Maxwell.
Omari: What would you say if I told you I had tickets to one of his shows?
Simone: I’d tell you to stop playin’ games.
Omari: (taking her hand) But I’m serious.
Simone: (pulling her hand away) Exactly what is your angle Mr. Grandberry?
Omari: (getting a little defensive) I’ve gotta have an angle?
Simone: You can cut that whole whine-and-dine crap out with me. I’ve been down that road and it usually ends up in a ditch.
Omari: Damn, Simone. I just want to get to know you. Make sure you’re more than just a pretty face. Is it my fault that I want to take you out and get you to call me by more than just my last name?
Simone: Well I can’t be sorry…(with emphasis) Omari, for being skeptical. But I can accept your invite because I’m not trying to miss out on an opportunity to see Maxwell in concert.
Omari: The concert is in a few weeks so hopefully I’ll get to know you more by then. And hopefully you’ll let me pick you up.
Simone: Maybe.
Omari: So…what’s the deal with the whole leading-you-into-a-ditch story?
Simone: I just haven’t been lucky with love. You?
Omari: To tell you the truth, I’ve never been in love.
Simone: Yeah right, everybody’s been in love.
Omari: I’ve been in this world 23 years and I’ve never been in love with anyone. I’ve loved people but never been in love.
Simone: Isn’t that the same thing?
Omari: No. I love my family. I loved my dog before it died. But I’ve never been romantically in love with anyone.
Simone: And why is that?
Omari: If it is meant for you to know, you’ll find out in due time.
Simone: (laughing a little) Are you always such a smart ass?
Omari: I try not to be but if the shoe fits…

They continued to talk and found out that they had a few things in common. They kept their goodbyes simple as Omari walked Simone to her car. He got no kiss or invite to her house but he did have a good time. Better than he thought he would have. He got into his car and picked up his cell phone.

Female’s Voice: Hello.
Omari: Yo, whaddup it’s O. You by yourself?
FV: Yeah.
Omari: Feel like company.
FV: You know my door is always open for ya boo. How far away are you?
Omari: About twenty minutes.
FV: Aiight. Call when you’re at the door and I’ll come and open it.
Omari: Aiight. See you in twenty.

Omari hung up with a grin on his face. He was gonna get some from somewhere that night.
