If your ethernet-card runs with 32-bit, you have to activate the cardbus first (Thinkpad-systemutility programm).
Normally PCMCIA gets IRQ 10. Maybe there is a IRQ conflict with other components like infrared or so...Look up for conflicts in the device-manager. Sometimes you have to set the IRQ manually, if your card isn't Plug'nPlay compatible.
