Booten von CD ist nicht möglich. Du kannst eine Startdiskette, z.B. die von Windows 98 nehmen (diese bringt CD-ROM universelle Treiber mit) und damit die Plata vorbereiten: Partitionieren und Formatieren, Aktivieren und bootbar machen. Es bietet sich an die Installationsdateien auf die Platte zu kopieren und von dort aus zu installieren. Dies ist zumindest bei Win98 und größeren Platten so.

Oder: Notebookplatte in den Desktoprechner einbauen und hier vor-präparieren.
