Here's the dish. The part number on my receipt says #12497483 17090 COVER. List is $550 and I think employee cost was somewhere in the $400-$450 range. GM doesn't actually make the part(it's farmed out). Upon further inspection, I payed $509. This cover is the black aluminum one. It is made up of four sections. The only drilling required is for two small holes on the inside of the tailgate. This holds the latch for the top. The cover sits on two weather seals that are stuck to the top of the bed sides. They have a rain channel in them. Once you have the seals on, you lay the cover out on the bed. The front piece(closest to the cab) is then clamped to the underside of the bed rails from the bottom. You can ride with the cover fully closed and locked down, or you can stack the back three sections on top of the front one and snap them together(they're hinged). I didn't know that I'd like it at first. It took some getting used to. It just didn't look like all the other truck covers out there. But I love it now. You can just open the back section to quickly load something without having to lift a heavy cover on struts. And if you carry something like a mower, you can fold it up and snap it without having to take it completely off the truck. As far as load goes, it seems pretty sturdy. My wife weighs 95 and she sat up on top of it without denting it. It's not completely rainproof, but it works just fine for me.
