all "true" 4x4 have trouble turning on high traction surfaces. The problem is that when turning a corner the front and rear axles need to travel at different rates, since our transfer case is locked, there is no give and binding occurs. An all wheel drive has a "limited slip" transfer case which allows it to turn smoothly in 4wd. Ours would be closer to a "spool" if you compared the concept to rear differentials.

The "chevy" problem mentioned was probably that they usually have a "faster" gear in the front differential. I haven't checked ours, but I've had Chevy's with 4.11 rear and 4.10 front. I guess it is so they track better. I'm not sure if the other manufacturers do the same.
