Subject: L'incorreggibile Giacomo. cap.1

(IcWales,Uk)
THE WORLD Cup has seen its first sacking - and it's come in the Italian camp.
What, has coach John Kirwan controversially had the boot despite his side's 36-12 victory over Tonga?
Or has scrum-half Alessandro Troncon been relieved of the captaincy?
No, the casualty is a female Aussie translator, whose services were unceremoniously dispensed with during a hilarious Italian press conference after the Tongan match.
The unfortunate lady was clearly nervous at being centre stage in a room packed with journalists and stumbled over her attempts to translate Kirwan's comments.
This just wouldn't do at all for impatient Italian media manager Giacomo Mazzocchi, who repeatedly cut across her staccato efforts to provide his own translation, before ultimately relieving her of her duties altogether, leaving her to slink away from the scene somewhat embarrassed.
The only trouble was that Giacomo's efforts were flawed as well. At one point he gave the exact opposite translation to what Kirwan had actually said and there was much correcting going on as confusion reigned over rucks, mauls and all manner of other phases and phrases.
In the end, it was left to the hugely impressive Kirwan to save the day. Fluent in both languages, he would first answer questions in perfect Italian and then in English, providing a translation of the question as well for good measure.
As for Giacomo, he's proving something of a star of this column. You may recall me revealing he was involved in a car crash in Canberra earlier this week - just days after Kirwan had called on his team to play like they drive.
It now emerges that our Giacomo was the man at the wheel of the hire car, with unlucky team manager Marco Bollesan the passenger who ended up with two broken ribs.
Bollesan winced his way through Wednesday's post-match press conference, remaining silent except to say that he was staying well away from his media manager for the rest of the trip!

Giacomo for president !!!!
