I agree and I especially enjoy his illuminating, both personally and generally, comments on other musicians and composers. His praise typically spurs me to discover a new musican; his criticism usually has me agreeing or at the very least listening to something with a new ear.

On the Yahoo Forum someone related some somewhat unflattering comments Shawn made about Tony MacAlpine's playing; the comments may have been out-of-context, but all-the-same it caused something of a furor. Certain folk were irked that Shawn would say something negative about the music/playing of another. Well, are we all not entitled to our opinions and must those thoughts only be positive? I do not expressing such things as as casting him in an unflattering light at all. It is not like we are talking about Yngwie slagging on McLaughlin . . .
