hi

well if you *really* want to understand music from a theoretical point of view I suggest taking a few music theory clesses at university(or better yet start learning guitar from a well educated teacher)

Other than that I don't think you *really* need to know why thinks are good. Peoples opinions are very subjective, if it sounds good to you, and it moves you/takes you somewhere then it is good music-plain and simple!!

On the other hand it's not as though if you study music you are told that if you play this note against that chord, with a particular feel that it is going to be good. It is far more subtle than that. You are given the basic building blocks via harmony/theory knowledge, how you use it is up to you, everyone has there own 'sound' approach to a certain extent, shawns approach, feel, vision is just perphaps on a much higher plain than most peoples!!

The most important thing is that what you are playing/composing is from the heart, and that you have something to say-that is why shawn is so good-he is saying/expressing something with his music.

hope this helps.

peace

james boyd
