Hello, sorry for responding so late to this thread. I just found this great forum. I've never seen Shawn Lane perform. I would like to see a video or live snipet.

On picking from the wrist, every guitarist that I see uses forearm movement for real fast picking. They seem to tense up and the forearm starts moving. Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Dimeola all do this on their videos. Most {excluding Dimeola} are said to be "wrist pickers" but at their speediest I see the wrist tighten and the forearm movement. I really agree with the last post on finding your own combination since everyone is different to an extent.
