"Well that's far from encouraging" R'du mutters darkly to Abeth (in response to Raja's mention of dangers of between) Abeth, torn between the urge to snort in agreement or to reprimand his rider's impudent comment, simply nods.
As the two glide easily to a more open spot to begin practice, however, R'du's aura of nonchalance is all but gone. Suddenly unsure of himself, he shivers in the warm sunlight. We'll do fine, don't worry Abeth thinks to his rider, trying to reassure him. Nothing will harm us as long as we do what she says. Silently, R'du nods in compliance and swallows, controlling his fear if not conquering it.
"Alright then." He says in an apprehensive whisper, "Let's try it."
Slowly, rider and dragon turn to face the eyestone, focussing every bit of attention they can muster upon it. "Close your eyes, Abeth, and make sure you can still picture it." R'du suggests, tense with excitement. They use this test several times, until they are absolutely sure the image in their minds is accurate. Finally, confident in their ability to remember the spot exactly, R'du speaks. "Now, let's try to jump." Abeth turns to look at R'du, confused. jump? he questions. "Yes that's what she said." R'du replies in a strangled whisper. I know thats what she said, the bronze replies, mildly annoyed. But what did she mean by jump? he wonders. Trying to remain calm, he focuses on the rock again. It was instinct, she had said. Maybe something would click if he just focused long enough. Somehow, Abeth begins to lose conciousness of everything but the rock. Then suddenly, Nothingness The blackness, utter cold, and emptyness shocks them both and they gasp. But no air comes in. Instintively Abeth jumps back and the two hover over the weyr, stunned momentarily. "We did it!" R'du says softly, eyes wide in astonishment.
