Subject: Blessings to all

I've been off-line for nearly 4 months now. Many of you have probably forgotten me or never met me. I should preface this by saying this isn't meant to put a damper on your holiday spirits. Please believe me.

Sept. 10th, my beautiful and loving step-daughter Michelle was in a car accident. She was hit head on by a group of college kids who had been celebrating their return to school. The young man driving was not intoxicated, but was distracted and being pestered by his friends in their truck. Luckily, they all experienced minor injuries, but my Michelle was left in a coma with extensive head trauma. I've spent endless hours holding her hand, praying for a miracle, and I came to realize that the miracle was having her in my life for 17 of her precious 24 years. I finally gave in and allowed her to be taken off life support the day after Thanksgiving, where she quietly drifted off to the life beyond.

I have no hatred or anger towards those young men responsible for my loss. I know they suffer in a different way and must live with this the rest of their lives. I do have regrets though. There are so many things I wish I had shared with her, so many things left unsaid or not said enough. Too often I took our special relationship for granted with preconceived expectations.

Now my reason for writing this is not to garner sympathy or pity, but to pass along this expensive lesson I've learned. Truly...tomorrow is promised to no one. Cherish your loved ones and friends. Make that little extra effort to mend wounds and fences. Kindness, hugs, and "I love you" are free but priceless, and so much more productive than sarcasm and negativity.

This is a difficult time for me, but I want to wish all of you and your loved ones a very safe and joyous Holiday Season. May the Gods bless you all...

Love,
Char
