In what feels like a strange mix of Agatha Christie and the movie Clue, Fran�ois Ozon's 8 Women shines bright with the star power of eight of France's best-known actresses, including Catherine Denueve, Fanny Ardant and Isabelle Huppert. In a remote chateau on a snowy day in the 1950's, Marcel (Dominique Lamure), the patriarch of the family is found dead his bed, and faster than you can cue the murder mystery music, the characters learn that the phone lines have been cut and that they are snowbound. Suspicions run strong amongst the women, with questions flying and secrets spilling at a screwball pace, intertwined with unexpected, strangely delightful outbreaks of song and dance. While the movie entertains with its rampant quirkiness, it is the development of eight intricate, distinct and unforgettable female identities that powers the film and makes it truly unique.
