Well, let me relate what happened to me. When I was in college, my dad told me that his Accord was making "funny noises" when he turned. So, the next time I was home, I took it out for a drive. We lived in the country just south of some "fun" curves. I came through the curves, downshifted, and then nailed the throttle coming out of the last curve. I then heard a big bang and I had no power - I'd let the clutch out and there was just a grinding noise. We towed it home and when I looked under the car, I found that the CV boot had been leaking for a long time, and that the CV joint was stipped inside of the outer joint.

So, you might run the risk of being stranded, but the shaft shouldn't come out or anything like that that would cause damage besides just needing a rebuilt shaft.

Good to know, though, that you can plan your repair! Good luck....Glen
