With the engine cold, take off the radiator cap and start the engine. You may be able to see bubbles in the coolant caused by combustion gases injected into the coolant.

Also, I think places like Autozone sell test strips that can check for combustion gases in the coolant.

Are you losing coolant? If not, then you might have either a bad water pump so you're not pumping coolant, or your engine itself my need flushing.

Hard to tell without more symptoms....Glen
