To add to the last comment by Glen, after checking for air in the line, etc. as he mentioned, if it is still a little spongy I amy be that is the case with the car. I have had an 86 and 89 Accord (and worked on others). I have had the master cylinder fail and so on, but regardless of how often I changed the fluid and bleeded the lines, there was always a little (not much) sponginess, but the pedal should be rather tight and not fall during heavy braking. I would certainly do everything Glen mentioned just for good maintenance.
