NO the evaporator section does not have to be removed.
The blower section is to the right of the evaporator.
You will have to remove the metal strap clap from between the two section,remove the gove box and maybe loosen dash on right for removal clearance.It is a bit fidally but does remove OK as one unit that can be dissassembled easily.
